GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 2nd December, 1919.

My Lord,

With reference to Your Lordship's Despatch

No. 458 of the 6th October, 1919, on the subject of the

resignation of Mr. J.Brennan from the Hongkong Police Force,

I have the honour to request that he should not be compelled

to resign. This officer has a clean defaulter's sheet and has

proved a valuable member of the Police Force. I would suggest

therefore that he be allowed to return to the Colony, on the

understanding that if he becomes unfit for duty through his failure to undergo the operation for varicose veins re- -commended by the Medical Advisers he will be required to refund the cost of his passage.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

7. E. Stubbs
